Ingredients

For the Cheese Ball
  • 1 cup bacon, cooked and chopped You can use store-bought bacon bits for added convenience.
  • 1 cup sour cream Adds creaminess and tang.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Ensure it's at room temperature for easy blending.
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese Feel free to substitute with your favorite cheese blend.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Choose between sharp or mild depending on your preference.
  • ¼ cup green onions, chopped Chives can work as a milder alternative.
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped Consider substituting with pecans or omitting for nut allergies.
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning Opt for a store-bought mix or whip up a homemade blend.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances the depth of flavor beautifully.
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper Adds a subtle kick to the overall taste.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds Can be left out if you prefer.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Plastic wrap
  • Serving Platter

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, thoroughly blend the cooked and chopped bacon with sour cream, softened cream cheese, shredded Mexican cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese. Add chopped green onions, walnuts, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and ground black pepper. Use a spatula or an electric mixer on low for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  2. Once the mixture is smooth and evenly mixed, use your hands to gently shape it into a ball. For a neat appearance, lightly dampen your hands with water before forming the ball. Aim for a diameter of about 8 inches. Place the cheese ball on a sheet of plastic wrap, tightly wrap it, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  3. While the cheese ball firms up, prepare the coating. In a small bowl, combine additional chopped bacon, shredded cheddar, chopped green onions, walnuts, and poppy seeds. Stir well until everything is evenly mixed.
  4. Once the cheese ball is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Carefully roll the cheese ball in the coating mixture, pressing gently to ensure it's evenly covered on all sides.
  5. Transfer the coated cheese ball to a serving platter. Surround it with an assortment of your favorite crackers or veggie sticks. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
