Step-By-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13x9-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine heavy whipping cream, 2% milk, salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Heat until bubbling, then remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes to about ⅛ inch thickness, and pat them dry with paper towels.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheeses.
  5. Repeat with the remaining potato slices, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
  7. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
