Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 10-inch cast iron skillet or an 8x8 baking pan by greasing it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine dark brown sugar, sea salt, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and eggs. Whisk until blended, then add melted butter and mix smoothly.
  3. Fold in coarsely chopped pecans into the filling mixture and pour it evenly into the prepared pan.
  4. In another bowl, mix yellow cake mix and optional cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the pecan filling.
  5. Melt another ¼ cup of unsalted butter and drizzle it over the cake mix layer. Then sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or up to 35 minutes if using an aluminum pan until golden brown with a set center.
