Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, chocolate fudge pudding mix, sour cream, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until just combined for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pan and bake for 28-32 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick.
  4. Once baked, cool the cake in the pan for about 30 minutes. Poke holes in the top of the cake with a wooden spoon handle.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and appropriate amount of milk until thickened. Pour over the cooled cake.
  6. Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, then add powdered sugar and a bit more pudding mix. Spread frosting over the cake.
  7. Sprinkle crushed Oreos over the frosting to create a dirt effect.
  8. Decorate with Milano cookies, gummy ghosts, and candy pumpkins. Write 'R.I.P.' on the cookies with black gel icing.
  9. Slice and serve the cake. Consider refrigerating before serving for a better frosting experience.
