Method

Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water (or coffee), and oil. Mix for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  3. Pour the cake batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto wire racks to cool completely.
  5. Prepare the frosting by creaming butter, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, incorporating milk until smooth.
  6. Once cooled, place one layer on a plate and spread frosting on top.
  7. Add the second cake layer and apply a thin crumb coat of frosting around the cake. Chill for 15 minutes.
  8. Melt the white chocolate and pipe a swirl pattern on top of the cake for the spiderweb design.
  9. Drag lines from the center to the edges to enhance the spiderweb effect. Optionally, pipe spiders with colored frosting.
