- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all your ingredients and prepare your baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
- Stir in the almond extract and mix well.
- Beat the eggs lightly before adding to the butter mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture until smooth.
- Spread the dough evenly into an 8-inch square baking pan and smooth out the top.
- In a small bowl, whisk the remaining egg with a splash of milk. Brush this mixture over the dough.
- Sprinkle sliced almonds on top and gently press them in.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is slightly soft.
- Let the bars cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Allow to cool completely before cutting.
