  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the liquid aminos or soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, rice wine vinegar, sambal oelek, sesame oil, fresh ginger, and pepper. Stir the mixture vigorously for about 1-2 minutes until the sugar fully dissolves.
  2. Increase the stove temperature slightly to bring the Korean BBQ sauce mixture to a gentle boil. Stir every 30 seconds for 3-4 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with cold water to create a smooth slurry.
  4. Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the saucepan while whisking continuously. Stir for 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool slightly for about 5 minutes before transferring to an airtight container.
