- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour four 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the wet ingredients—eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla—to the bowl of dry ingredients. Blend until smooth.
- Stir in the hot water gently and allow the batter to rest for 5 minutes.
