Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour four 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the wet ingredients—eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla—to the bowl of dry ingredients. Blend until smooth.
  4. Stir in the hot water gently and allow the batter to rest for 5 minutes.
  5. Evenly divide the batter among the prepared pans and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
  6. After cooling, stack the layers, spreading caramel sauce and pecans between each. Top with chocolate ganache.
