Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare your baking sheet.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, fine salt, and cream of tartar.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar in a stand mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, cocoa, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the mixture and combine.
  5. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until just incorporated.
  6. Form dough into 3 oz balls and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake, dropping the pan after 5 minutes for texture, for 13-16 minutes.
  8. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Make the icing by mixing melted butter, cream cheese, water, and sugar to desired consistency.
  10. Dip cookies in icing and sprinkle with holly sprinkles if desired.
