Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking dish with crumpled aluminum foil at the bottom.
  2. Rinse fresh mussels under cold running water, scrub the shells, and discard any broken or open ones.
  3. In a large pot, place cleaned mussels and add water. Cover and steam on medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes until opened.
  4. In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs, cheese, parsley, garlic, and oregano (if using). Drizzle with olive oil and mix well.
  5. Remove the top shell from each opened mussel, placing the mussel meat back onto the half-shell in the baking dish.
  6. Top each mussel generously with the breadcrumb mixture and drizzle with a little mussel cooking juice if desired.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 7-10 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
