For the Toppings
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese or blend with provolone
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese or nutritional yeast for dairy-free

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather a 9x13 inch baking dish for layering.
  2. In a large skillet, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the meat is browned and onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until creamy and well blended.
  5. In the baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for about 15 minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy!
